　　Helen Keller once wrote about these early days.

　　One beautiful spring morning I was alone in my room, reading. Suddenly a wonderful smell in the air made me get up and put out my hands . The spirit of spring seemed to be passing in my room. 　　One day my teacher and I were returning from a long walk. It was a fine morning but it started to get warm and heavy. We stopped to rest two or three times. Our last stop was under a cherry tree, a short way from our house. The shade was nice and the tree was easy to climb. Miss Sullivan climbed with me. Few of the books she needed were written in the Braille language that the blind could read by touching pages. Miss Sullivan and others had to teach her what was in these books by forming words in her hands. The study of geometry and physics was especially difficult. Helen could only learn about squares, triangles and other geometrical forms by making them with wires. She kept feeling the different shapes of these wires until she could see them in her mind.

　　My first day at Radcliffe college was of great interest. Some powerful force inside me made me test my mind. I wanted to learn if it was as good as that of others. I learned many things at college. 　　I seldom talk to anybody after work, not like what I do in English Salon. I will be talkative only when I drink with my buddies. And I don’t talk much on big parties, nor do I do to my wife at home.

　　What I always prefer to do is having 2 or 3 of my good friends in a comfortable KTV room, drinking and talking about anything we like. I call it “Men’s Talk”. Because most of the topics we talk about are not the stuff girls like to hear.

　　The other reason why we don’t want girls to be involved into our conversations is because they like to compare and complain. Losing face is what a man afraid of in official circumstances, or when he is with his friends or colleagues. Some girls/women do not care much about where they are, whom they are facing or talking, when they start complaining about their boyfriends/husbands. This is really embarrassing for both the man who is being complained and his friends.

　　One day, a very good friend of mine invited me and my wife to his house for dinner. I bought a lot of dishes and beers for him, not only because of being politeness, but I knew he did not earn much. When we sat down around the table and started the dinner, I was thinking about what to talk about to him, because his wife was there. My wife enjoyed talking with his wife about cosmetics, fitness clubs, famous shopping centers, supermarkets…, etc. My friend sighed when he saw their talking. He told me he could not afford to many things he wanted to buy for his wife. And he said he was jealous to me and my wife because we earned more than RMB18000 a month. I could say nothing but tell him there were always other opportunities waiting for him.
